San Jose Newborn Photography | Baby Grayson
A friend of Kelsie’s hired me for newborn portraits as a gift for her, and she couldn’t be more excited to start taking some gorgeous photos of little Grayson! Kelsie wanted a more natural style, less posed with less props, and in that situation it’s completely ok to wait until around the 3-4 week mark for the photos. If you want to do more of the traditional poses with props and photos that include lots of maneuvering the newborn, then it’s best to do them around 7-10 days old while they are still pretty much always asleep and very movable. I usually recommend skipping over the 2 week period as that’s when they can be a bit more grumpy and also get baby acne, so 3 weeks is a perfect time to come back in for this style! When I do studio portraits I have two options - one, you can come to my home studio where it’s all set up as the whole downstairs is a studio! Or two I can come to your house and set up a backdrop and lighting and turn any room into a studio. This is the option I prefer when doing newborn photos, the more comfortable in their own environment they are the more likely they will remain happy and sleepy!
I quickly set up a backdrop and we used a one of my white backdrops and then a blanket that he’s already comfortable with. A couple posing cushions under the blanket help the baby get into position without having to move them too much, and then I just set up the lighting and we’re off! Grayson was getting a little big for this basket but we thought it looked adorable so I got a few shots in there too. Then the family dog insisted that he should get to be in the photo, so I had to oblige! One thing you need to know about me, I LOVE dogs and anytime there is a chance to include them I’m all for it! Kelsie wasn’t planning on being in any of the photos but I convinced her to let me take just one of them together and I’m so glad I did, look at the love between mother and son! We are already scheduling their family portraits for a beautiful Big Sur beach photoshoot next!
